The youthful appearance of our skin is dependent on a substance called hyaluronic acid. This is what gives volume and fullness.
Unfortunately, the ageing process and sun exposure can weaken the amount and the quality of hyaluronic acid in the skin. In the past, the answer to the fine lines and folds in your skin has been collagen; which is derived from cows. At Skintology Health and Wellness Centre we use non-animal-derived hyaluronic acid fillers. They are fully biocompatible, resulting in few side-effects and long-lasting effects, as well as a soft natural feel.
How do fillers work?
Hyaluronic acid gel is injected into the skin using a fine, sterile needle. The positioning is determined by factors such as the location and depth of a wrinkle or fold. Wrinkles are immediately lifted, and lips are immediately plumped.
What kinds of wrinkles can be treated?
Wrinkles around the lips and the forehead, deep hollows under the eyes, shadows around the eyes and mouth can be eliminated and volume can be added to the cheeks for a health youthful glow.
Is it painful?
Typically, Botox is about a 1/10 and fillers are about a 2-3/10. This is a sliding scale and varies for each individual client; but the treatment is usually very tolerable. A local anesthetic can be used prior to the treatment to help minimize the pain.
How long do the effects last?
This varies between individuals. Since the hyaluronic acid fillers are made of a substance similar to your own skin, the length of the effects will be dependent on many factors. These include one’s age, lifestyle and structure of the skin. Most patients choose to have a touch-up treatment done within 6-12 months of the first treatment.
Is it safe?
The skin does not react to the hyaluronic acid cosmetic filler since it is almost identical to what is naturally in the human body.
There is little risk of allergic reaction or transmitting diseases since the hyaluronic acid is not derived from animal sources. The most common side effects are mild swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising at the treatment site. These will subside within a few days.
